The best way to find the good, cheap used cars online is to do your research before you buy. There is no shortage of classified advertising online that offers a huge number of choices every day, but these ads are not usually researched or regulated before they are posted. They often contain errors, and may also include significant misrepresentations. It's good advice that if a deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is, although sometimes you can get lucky and find that seller who has priced their car extra low because they need to sell fast. How can you tell? Do your research.
What's it Worth?
Finding cheap used cars online isn't hard, the hard part is getting real value and not someone's cast off lemon. Dealers and other experienced buyers will often begin their research process with the Blue Book pricing, although not everyone agrees with the values it assigns. But it is helpful as a starting point. You should also research what similar cars are going for in your area since prices fluctuate based on location. For example, if you're looking for used cars in Austin, TX or used cars in Buffalo, NY you would want to find the best online resources for local price comparisons. One of the best sites with millions of listings of used cars for sale is CheapUsedCars.com.
A History Lesson
The best cheap used cars online tend to come from sellers who know what they're doing, meaning they offer plenty of detailed information about appearance, maintenance and other details. They include info and pictures, links to the car's history and more. The more you know about the make and model, and the car's history, the more persuasive you can be when negotiating the car price. Once you find a car you're interested in, a reputable seller will give you all of the background information, including the car's VIN so you can uncover its history. If they don't have any information, or refuse to give it to you, move on to the next car!
Kick the Tires
Once your research is done, it's time to see the car in person. Again, a reputable seller will let you take the car to a mechanic of your choice to check it out. And if they don't, it's likely that they are trying to hide something and you should move on. Once you've checked it out to your satisfaction, though, all that's left is managing the negotiation process with a little poise and you can be confident that you've made a good buying decision.

Hot Wheels has jumped on board the Danica Patrick NASCAR sponsor train. What does it all mean? Well, other than an TV camera-height embroidered logo on her Nomex suit, it means that Danica's getting a Hot Wheels car of her own. The "Danicar" is apparently Hot Wheels' first celeb-designed car (she's credited as a co-designer along with the HW design team in El Segundo, a group of people who may well have the greatest jobs ever.) It's one of those pie-in-the-sky Hot Wheels originals, featuring an Indy-style nose section and cockpit that leads to a big rear-mounted engine and quad, jumbo-sized drive wheels in back.
We figured it might be a positioned as a more collectible or special-edition car (the kinds that usually retail in the $2 to $3 range), but a Hot Wheels spokesperson set us straight: When it eventually ships, the Danicar will be part of the basic 1:64-scale assortment that tempts you from the toy aisle pegs at around 99 cents a pop. It won't be limited in quantity for collectability's sake, so anyone who wants it should be able to snag one. PR from Mattel (featuring an absolutely cringe-inducing Danica sponsor-speak quote) is pasted after the
